About Me

With $5,500 remained in the bank account, I am leaving Los Angeles (my current habitat) to fly across borders to 7 countries: Honduras, Dominican Republic, Italy (my second home), United Kingdom, Spain, Hong Kong (my hometown) and Singapore for the next 5 months.

I am sorry to blame on being a Capricorn, but I need purpose to function. I don’t like the idea of fleeting travel and simply giving each place a passing glance. I just don’t see the point because every country has its peculiar culture and social structure that require time to dig out. Touristic sights are solely a cover layer that don’t reflect much of the modern ongoing of certain local setting. For each country I visit, I provide myself reasons, themes, and goals to achieve. The overall meaning of this project is to apply my foreign language skill, visit old time friends, revisit and re-experience, attend my sister’s graduation, meet a pen pal of 8 years for the first time, experience cultures, make new friends…Most importantly,  to convince you that if I can do it, you can do it!

Some people have been telling me “I am so jealous. If only I had money!” when they are driving nice cars, spending hundreds of dollars eating out, going to theme parks and living in luxurious apartment. Well, if only you can give up on the quality of your living for a while and cut down expenses, it is possible. I have been renting a living room area for cheaper rent. I communed with bicycle or bus only. I cooked at home most of the time. Guess how much I save? At least enough to survive the trip! There are a lot of ways to travel with low budget, sometimes all we need is a little courage! I will be updating and continuing to share this experience with you 2-3 times a week!

By sharing the budgeted vagabond experience that most people wish to do but are often held back by the thought of money, the thought of being alone in a foreign terrain, and the idea of leaving the comfort zone to face uncertainty, I hope to be your inspiration to chase after your dreams at all cost. These fear and hesitation are what halt you from valuable life experiences.  Being 20 year old with no family nor career obligation, I have no excuse to flinch. I am supposed to be bold and fearless and eager to see the most of this world while I still can and still have full loads of energy.

Remember, if I can do it, you can do it!

Hope to see you soon!

Vaga B.
